In honor of my sis, the doctor. For some reason, I think this is how I would act if I were a doctor. Luckily for everyone else, my sister is a bit more well behaved as a pediatrician.

Picture mashups
When browsing news sites on the internet or the analog internet (aka a newspaper) sometimes there are pictures very close to each other that, separately, make a lot of sense. But when combined with the next picture appear rather humorous.
Here's one I found this week. During the State of the Union address the President needed to eat a bowl of cereal halfway through.

Bragging rights
It's come to my attention that the younger good son is trying to dethrone me, the elder good son, by tunneling underneath my throne to have it collapse beneath me whilst I rule in glory. He's trying to accomplish this task by showing off his slightly manly skills of putting in a new kitchen sink faucet, or directing his lovely wife while she puts in new tiles (looks great by the way!), and maybe a few other little odd jobs he's done around the house to improve things here and there.
I realize I may have been a bit complacent in my good son duties, so I decided to show off MY manly skills, lest anyone think I can skate through life on past accomplishments.
For this weekend's Saturday project I decided to replace the master bathroom fan. Here's a recap of how it went.
Step 1: buy a new fan; bigger, faster, awesomer than the old one
Step 2a: turn on the iPod "Painting" music playlist with the likes of Bon Jovi, Metallica and the Ataris
Step 2b: turn off the circuit breaker switch (you're taking notes right? not that this happened to me, but somebody else may benefit from being reminded)
Step 2c: remove the old fan, and in the process destroy it so badly that I have no other choice but to keep going and put in the new one, even if I wanted to stop
Step 3: cut a hole in the ceiling so the new fan will fit (thank you drywall knife - very manly)
Step 4: clean up the insulation that is falling out of the ceiling like snow
Step 5-14: make repeated trips to the tool shed to get all my tools ready to go
Step 15: make another trip to the hardware store to buy one more thing
Step 16: borrow a bigger ladder from the neighbor, a step-stool does not cut it in this manly project
Step 17: remove the old 3" duct that's too small to fit, I need a 4" duct
Step 18: remove the wasps nest, twigs, and birds nest with egg from inside the old duct (no wonder there wasn't any good airflow before)
Step 19: sit and reflect about how, several years ago, I could've sworn we had a family of birds living in our attic, which was the reason I put up a bird grate on the outside of the house over this very duct hole
Step 20: show the birds nest to Julia, who thinks it's great! I told her that yes, I thought the baby bird had gotten out of its shell already.
Step 21: find a way to use Petzl climbing gear to temporarily hang the new fan inside the ceiling hole
Step 22: screw it all in
Step 23: unscrew it and take it down because I forgot to put on a required bracket
Step 24: put it all back up and screw it in again
Step 25: wire it in
Step 25b: unwire it and put the wires through the special wire hole so the wiring box cover will fit back on and cover the wires
Step 25c: wire it again
Step 26: turn on the power again
Step 27: have wife turn on the fan so she can be blamed if it doesn't work
Step 28: smile proudly as wife showers me with praise for a job well done
Step 29: strut around the house in a very manly fashion and think of other fixer upper jobs that I can do
So in closing, if there's one thing I learned through all this, manliness is something not to be taken lightly. When you achieve this status, never let anyone forget it, or else you'll have to start a new home project to remind them, and that will get in the way of watching football.

Let it snow
Reed was a bit hesitant when I set him down in this big pile of soft white stuff. He never cracked a smile the whole time he was outside, being so intently curious as to what the heck this new sensation was all about.
He still needs to learn about the importance of gloves since halfway through building the snowman he took them off and sat down to watch Julia and I finish.
